New Book Cover, Signings, and More!

I’m excited to reveal the cover of my new book, Time and Blood! The ebook is available for pre-order now, and both ebook and print version will be available on Oct 31!  My treat for you. The cover was designed by the very talented Marisa-rose Robyn of Cover Me Darling and you will be delighted when you see the interior designed by Cassy Roop of Pink Ink Designs.

The story is a paranormal romance between a phoenix and a vampire. Here is the book’s blurb:

Historians in Atlantis inscribed a prophecy in The Great Book of Forgetting about a pair of phoenix whose union would change the future of all magical creatures. When the sea swallowed Atlantis and all her inhabitants, time forgot the people and this prophecy.

But one creature survived.

Rhea is a scarlet phoenix and the last of her kind. She escaped Atlantis with The Great Book and for over ten thousand years roamed the earth, grieved for her lost immortal beloved, and endured nightmares from her past lives. Today, she hears a familiar voice on the wind luring her to a new place. Rhea follows and hopes for the impossible.

She crossed millennia to find him.

Jean-Louis is a 250-year-old vampire in New Orleans. For fifty years, nightmares plagued him, and a violent wind haunted him whispering in a foreign tongue. In his dreams, Jean-Louis sees the face of a woman he knows and aches for but has never met. He feels her approach; however, the vampire senses a connecting malevolence waits in the shadows.

He risks his immortality to keep her.

An accident will bring Rhea into Jean-Louis’ arms. The shock will give new life to the ancient prophecy. But others whisper of the legendary phoenix and are hunting for Rhea. They must steal The Great Book and prevent any chance of the prophecy’s fulfillment. If they fail, the phoenix must die.

Together they battle destiny for the future.

Rhea will risk everything for love, even death.

When time and blood converge, blood must win.

(Next week, let’s discuss National Novel Writing Month!)

The Book of Now is LIVE

Okay I’ll admit it. I’m excited and psyched. My new book of nonfiction poetry, The Book of Now, is now available for purchase! I’m so thrilled!

This book was a true labor of love, but also, an experience. I could not stem the tide of poetry that came out of me for about six months. If a person can hemorrhage verses, then I did. Morning, noon, middle of the night, it didn’t matter. The issues compelled me to write about them and the headlines drew out the emotions. Terrorist attacks, bigotry in politicians, friends of mine beaten by spouses and boyfriends, other friends batting over HB2NC and wondering if they will be attacked because they chose to pee in the “wrong” bathroom, natural monuments being destroyed out of stupidity. The toll on the people filled my heart and the poetry came unbidden. Much of it could never see the light of day but the rest is my offering in the new book.

Terrorism, Abuse, Politics and Nature — topics that include bigotry, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia and domestic violence, as well as ecological destruction, international slavery, and immigration. A heavy variety of headlines and issues that will leave deep wounds and deeper scars.

I’m very proud of this new book. I hope you will give it a try. For now the print book is available and the ebook will soon follow (in about 2-3 weeks). This is my reflection of today’s world and the issues consuming it. Join me in recognizing them and working to change the future.

You can find the book here and soon there will be a direct link from the front page as well as inside the list of books. You will also be able to order it from B&N and other online retailers. It will be available in overseas distribution too.

Please raise a glass with me as I celebrate my newest creation! And if you do read it, please consider leaving me a review on Amazon and Goodreads. I would be very grateful for your comments and support.

I’LL BE ON THE RADIO! – Tune in to hear me discuss the new book and read a poem or two on Focus on Women Magazine’s blogtalk radio, La Femme de Prose, on July 26 at 7pm.  Here’s a link to listen live and you can call in with questions at 917-889-3894. Looking forward to chatting with you.

I remain yours between the lines,

Join my new Street Team Phoenix!

Last week I introduced you to my new personal assistant, Terri Wilson. Since my announcement, Terri has been busy getting organized, making spreadsheets, opening new social media platforms, investigating bloggers and book reviewers, and prepping for our new street team.

What is a street team? Basically it is just what it sounds like. For authors, it’s a team of people whose purpose it is to “hit the ground running” in an effort to promote an author and the author’s works.

You may ask yourself what I ask myself – if I am not a bestselling author or even a highly popular one, then how can I have a street team?

Ah, grasshopper, that is the point! A street team helps an author spread the word about his/her books, promoting to libraries, book groups,. bookstores, colleges, writing groups – anywhere where people read or might be interested in the named authors writings. The idea is to help promote the author to new people and improve the author’s visibility.

A street team is a valuable resource in social media too. Their promotions on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, Google+ and other platforms can truly help authors find their readers, new readers and a niche for their work.

The value of street teams cannot be underestimated. I’ve learned the value of them from several prolific authors like Jackson Dean Chase and, my dear friend, Robbie Cox, just to nightlight a couple. The publicity street teams provide and their tireless faith and promotion truly increases book reviews and fan bases.

And that’s what I need in order to be a name you’ll recognize more readily.

Also, a good street team can be a reading pool where an author can find beta readers among the supportive fans, as well as other areas of expertise. Additionally, these readers can offer great suggestions of what can be done on social media as well as what authors might want to write going forward.

I’m excited to open this new Street Team. Anyone who is “local” will have a chance to meet up with Terri and me and have some fun working together.  Team members from other areas and across the country/world will hear from me exclusively too, we just won’t get in person contact.
